Visiting PhD Student Huitian Liu Publishes Research on Electric Vehicles
Monday, 7 October, 2024
CDIC and UCD Environmental Policy are delighted to highlight the success of Visiting PhD student Huitian Liu from Chang'an University, who is currently spending a year in Ireland under the supervision of Dr. Luke Kelleher, Director of the CDIC TCPEP Programme and Deputy Head of UCD School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy, and Professor Liming Wang, Director of the Irish Institute for Chinese Studies. Together, they have achieved a significant research milestone with the acceptance of their paper, titled "Life Cycle Assessment: Driving Strategies for Promoting Electric Vehicles in China" in the International Journal of Sustainable Transportation.
This collaborative research evaluates the environmental impact of different vehicle types across China’s provinces using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The study finds that Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) are the most effective at reducing emissions, though strategies must consider regional differences in electricity generation.
The success of this publication underscores the value of international collaborations and highlights the impactful research from Chinese students studying in Ireland. Huitian, Dr. Kelleher, and the team are now preparing to submit a second paper to a Q1 Transport journal by the end of October.
This work represents a growing area of research on sustainable transportation and showcases the global reach of CDIC’s research efforts.
