CDIC Cultural Meet-Up: A Celebration of Connection

The recent CDIC Cultural Meet-Up brought together UCD students and staff for a warm and engaging cultural exchange that celebrated global traditions, values, and creativity within our university community. The event encouraged open dialogue and curiosity through a series of themed questions designed to explore daily life, arts, education, and society across different cultures.
Participants shared stories about traditional dishes, family customs, and special festivals from their home countries. Conversations about what is considered polite or impolite sparked laughter and reflection, revealing how cultural norms can vary yet often share underlying values of respect and kindness.
In the arts and entertainment segment, attendees discussed music, sports, and dance from local folk traditions to global pop influences, highlighting the creative spirit that unites people worldwide. UCD teachers and students alike exchanged recommendations for TV shows, artists, and national sports heroes, discovering common interests and new inspirations.
The discussion on education and work offered fascinating insights into different schooling systems, study habits, and career aspirations around the world. Students shared how they spend their free time and which subjects are most valued, while staff reflected on cultural perspectives around learning and achievement.
Finally, the society and values section prompted heartfelt exchanges about family life, daily routines, and the importance of community. Participants also shared personal stories, and childhood memories, creating a sense of warmth and connection.
