Biographical History
Born in County Kilkenny and educated in Dublin, O’Donovan worked with Eugene O'Curry for the Ordnance Survey and went on to found the Irish Archaeological Society with O’Curry in 1841. He was appointed Professor of Celtic Studies in the Queen’s College, Belfast, in 1852. Profoundly erudite and prolific in publication, his contribution to Irish scholarship was immense.
Scope and Content
Five letters concerning the work of John O’Donovan. Includes two letters from James Henthorne Todd to O’Donovan concerning his research on annals in the British Museum, and sources generally; copy letter from O’Donovan to Todd; and two letters concerning O’Donovan’s publications.
