What we know from Growing Up in Ireland 2008-2024: Key Well-being Factors for Children and Young People

Prepared by Dr Kaat Philippe, Dr Seaneen Sloan and Dr Ross D. Neville in University College Dublin, this DCDE commissioned report provides a comprehensive overview of the risk and protective factors for the well-being of children and young people (up to 22 years old). The report collates information available in published research (up to 5th June 2024) that utilised Growing Up in Ireland data. This report aims to identify the key factors which impede or support child well-being, the extent to which these are socially patterned, and the resulting policy opportunities. The report will serve as a useful resource for policymakers in the area, and showcases the value of the data generated by Growing Up in Ireland.

We are pleased to invite you to the launch of UCD School of Education’s evaluation report on Rethink Ireland's Equity in Education Fund 2022–2025, taking place on Tuesday, 25th November 2025, from 2–4pm at the UCD University Club, Dublin. The event will feature contributions from the Donegal Travellers Project, Offaly Traveller Movement, Teen-Turn, and The B!G Idea, highlighting the impact of this €1.25 million fund created by Rethink Ireland in partnership with the Department of Rural and Community Development and a private donor. Minding Your Wellbeing is an evidence-based programme, focusing on the promotion of mental wellbeing and has been adapted for embedding in higher education curriculum.

FACES Child Poverty Pilot Project

FACES Families: Adult & Child Enhanced Services Child Poverty Pilot, led by DLR and Wicklow CYPSCs, LCDCs, Bray Area Partnership and Southside Partnership, collaborating with UCD a pilot on developing interventions to promote the wellbeing of parents, children, and the family system within the external context in which the family is situated.

Children's School Lives

Ireland’s first in-depth study of primary schools contributing to the development of national policy, informed by the voices of children, their families, their teachers and school leaders. Commissioned by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) Children’s School Lives Study (CSL) is conducted by UCD School of Education. A landmark study, it explores the lived experiences of over 4000 children in 189 primary schools across Ireland from 2019 – 2024.

The project is developing a toolkit of different approaches that can be used to promote sustainable wellbeing through curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment at UCD, be built by students for students, as experts of their own experience.
