A swap shop is being trialled as part of 'Wellness Wednesday' in the UCD Student Centre from 12pm - 2pm until the end of November.
This UCD community hub recently received sustainability seed funding to establish a space on campus that brings together sustainability-related activities, such as highlighting alternatives to fast fashion.
Featuring a swap shop, sewing repair area and information about sustainability initiatives on campus, the community hub is spearheaded by Kirsten Southard, BSc Sustainability programme manager and Kendra Paleczny, BSc Sustainability student. The stand is manned by Kendra and a growing number of students activating their passion for sustainability on campus.
"We're setting up a sustainability community hub and it's going to feature a permanent swap shop," says Kendra. "Right now we are just trialling it with the Students Union on their Wellness Wednesday, which is in the Student Centre every week from 12 to 2pm.
“We have a take-it-or-leave-it policy, so you can take anything you like and you don't have to bring anything, or you can leave whatever you like, as long as it's in good condition. We also have a repair station that we're collaborating with the Sustainability Society on, so if you have any clothes that need simple repairs you can come in and Riya will stitch them up for you."
The UCD Community Hub is currently seeking a more permanent location.
