Atmospheric Plasma Coating of Polymers

Description
Amongst the advantages of atmospheric plasma's compared to vacuum plasma treatments, is their ability to carry out continuous rather than batch processing, processing times are shorter and equipment costs are reduced. Coating deposition studies are carried out using a reel-to-reel atmospheric plasma system that was developed in Ireland by Dow Corning Plasma Solutions. Uniquely the deposited nm thick coatings retain the chemical functionality of the original precursors which are nebulized into the plasma. The coatings are applied using the LablineTM shown below. The research to date has correlated how plasma deposition parameters influence coating chemistry, adhesion, thickness and morphology. Coatings have been deposited onto polymers from a large range of precursors including PDMS, TEOS, OMCTS, PLA and PEG.
