What is this Structured Elective about?
This Structured Elective will allow students from across UCD gain an understanding and appreciation of Law and the legal system in Ireland and Europe, such as the role of the courts in the interpretation of law, and the relationship between Irish and EU laws.
Why should I take it?
It will enable interested students to develop an understanding of Law, developing knowledge in a specific area of interest, such as Media Law, Child Protection, Law and Technology, Environmental Law or Criminal Justice.
How will it benefit me?
This Structured Elective will provide interested students with the opportunity to integrate legal reasoning into their own disciplines and to use the legal skills acquired to reflect on their other areas of practice and learning.
How do I take the modules?
- Structured Electives are available to undergraduate students only.
- In order to earn this Structured Elective you must take the modules as specified below in or after 2022/23.
- To be awarded this Structured Elective you must take 15 credits from the list of modules outlined below. You will not be awarded this Structured Elective if you are graduating with a major or minor listed in the Eligibility section below.
- To achieve the Structured Elective in Law, you must take three modules including both LAW10450: Law in Courts and LAW10440: Law in Europe
- You do not need to register for the Structured Elective in advance, it will be awarded when you complete the three modules as specified below during your studies.
