Student Emergency Fund Appeals

All students who submit an application to the UCD Student Emergency Fund (SEF) and whose application is unsuccessful may appeal. Appeals to the SEF must be made on one or more of the following three grounds:

  • Administrative or procedural errors that impacted the outcome.
  • Perceived misinterpretation or misapplication of the fund’s criteria or scope.
  • New information or a change in circumstances coming to light

How to lodge an appeal

Students have up to five working days to appeal from the date they receive the outcome of their SEF application from their UCD Student Adviser or Chaplain. Students who wish to appeal should inform their Student Adviser or Chaplain that they wish to do so and complete the (opens in a new window)UCD Student Emergency Fund Appeal application form linked here.

When a student lodges an appeal, they will receive an acknowledgement email of this from the Chair of the SEF Appeals Panel. The SEF Appeals Panel will review applications within 10 working days of receipt. A decision on an appeal will normally be made within this time period. However, if this timeframe cannot be met, students will be notified directly of any delay by the Chair of the SEF Appeals Panel.

Possible outcomes of your appeal

The SEF Appeals Panel may take one of the following actions:

  • Uphold the original decision.
  • Overturn the original decision, leading to a different outcome.
  • Request further information or clarification from the student, which may result in either the original decision being upheld or overturned, leading to a different outcome.

The decision of the SEF Appeals Panel is final. If a student is dissatisfied with the decision, they may be referred to other UCD procedures, such as the UCD Complaints process.

Communication of decision
  • The student’s Student Adviser or Chaplain will receive written communication from the Chair of the SEF Appeals Panel.
  • Students will receive written communication regarding the outcome, including rationale and any next steps, from their Student Adviser or Chaplain.
  • The outcome of the appeal will be communicated to the Chair of the SEF and the Student Support Administrator for their records.
