BSc Social Sciences DN700 Stage 1 Registration
What is Registration in UCD? How do I register for Stage 1?
When you register on a programme in UCD, you are confirming your name on an official list of students - and you will also choose some of your modules.
When you begin your registration you will normally find that you are already registered to a number of modules in each of the subjects that you nominated as they are “core modules” (see the
UCD Jargon Buster).
To complete your module choices for your programme, you need to follow the instructions on the screen and choose option modules and then your elective module. Each module has a full description online.
Will I receive any information about how to register?
The
UCD Registration Guide tells you how to register online. You will have received this as part of your UCD Welcome booklet in the post. It can also be accessed online
here.
What if I want to change my CAO subject choices?
You will be pre-registered to modules or provided with a list of option modules in your nominated subjects. If this is incorrect, please contact us as soon as possible. Contacting us at the earliest point possible will enable us to check for spaces in your desired subjects.
Students who wish to change subjects can do so in the first 2 weeks of term. The deadline for change requests for 2023/24 has now passed.
I am thinking about trying other subjects...
We encourage you to consider using your option and elective modules to explore your interests in the Social Sciences subjects.
We have some useful tips on using your elective modules to explore the social sciences here:
Electives in UCD Social Sciences.
Applications for Transfers to different subjects in Stage 2 will be permitted for students who have completed Stage 1 and meet other specific criteria. Please click
here for a summary of in-programme transfers in BSc Social Sciences.
Contact the Social Sciences Office for further advice.
When should I start to choose my modules?
You will be sent an email from Registry regarding a “Start time” to book your registration before Orientation. This is done through your SISWeb account. Once you have completed this step check your UCD Connect e-mail account for your Start Time for module registration. Option and Elective Modules have a limited number of places so it is important that you select your modules as early as possible. If you have not received this information, you should contact the
Student Desk.
Should I wait until Orientation to begin my registration?
No, you must register as soon as registration opens for you.
Log into SISWeb on 29 August between 8am and 1pm (the earlier the better!) to book your registration start time for module registration. You will receive an email to your UCD Connect email with your start time. If you don’t book a start time, one will be automatically selected for you.
Module registration begins on 30 and 31 August for the first group of incoming CAO students. Check your UCD email for your start time.
You will register to tutorials and additional classes for some modules at this time also.
Registration labs are available to students during orientation in Room A105 Newman if you have any difficulty in registering.

Must I attend Orientation?
Yes. Orientation is compulsory. During Orientation there will be a series of activities events that will prepare you for your time in UCD. The information provided during orientation is important. For further information please see our Orientation page.
I think I should have an exemption from a module...
