Stage 4 allows you to move more in depth into your subject of choice with a greater focus on a wide range of option modules. Many Stage 4 modules highlight the crucial role of research in the Social Sciences. You will learn how to recognise the features of high-quality research in the social sciences. You will also learn more about the role of theory in social science research. By the end of Stage 4 you will have learned how to identify how research skills can be applied/ are relevant in the workplace and other settings outside of academia.
In Stage 4 you must select 50 credits from you major/minor. Your final 10 credits can be taken by elective modules or you can choose additional modules from your major/minor.
PPE Stage 4: the opportunity to drop a subject
Stage 4 offers two pathways for PPE students.
(i) They can continue with all three subjects. Students must select 10-20 credits in each subject, adding up to 50 credits in total. The remaining 10 credits are electives.
(ii) They can continue with only two subjects. Students must select 20-30 credits in each subject, adding up to 50 credits in total. The remaining 10 credits are electives.
Note: all Level 3 Politics modules are worth 10 credits. Students are permitted, as part of their Stage 4 requirements, to enroll in one 5-credit Level 2 Politics module from a list of eligible modules.
Although completing the degree in only two subjects, students will still be awarded a BSc degree in “Philosophy, Politics and Economics.”
Students will make their choice of pathway upon registration for Stage 4 in August.
