Dr Gayil Nalls, SMARTlab PhD alumna and active researcher in SMARTlab New York, founder of the UNESCO-award winning World Sensorium Conservancy and editor of the journal Plantings, is launching her new documentary film onIRELAND AND ITS AROMATIC HERITAGEat the Irish Film Institute: 14 May, 6:30pm. The film is one of the artistic outputs of Nalls' VOICE artist fellowships, funded by the European Commission's Horizon Programme. Professor Lizbeth Goodman, SMARTlab Director, is co-PI of VOICE and hosted the Nalls residency at SMARTlab Skelligs, where the film was made in collaboration with diverse experts from the Iveragh Peninsula community.
Author and broadcaster Manchan Magan narrated the film and will speak alongside Dr Nalls on the themes of biodiversity, national identity through botanicals, olfaction and culture.
Audience members will experience the scent of the World Sensorium and will hear music by Colm & Ronan O'Snodaigh and Brian Hogan of Kíla, and will have a chance to vote for the new botanical scent of Ireland!
