Performing the Violence of Silence: Scenes from Such Creatures by Judith Thompson
Semi-staged scenes from Such Creatures written by award-winning Canadian playwright, Judith Thompson, and performed by students from UCD’s Dramasoc.
The semi-staged scenes, along with an interview and Q&A with Judith Thompson will take place from 5.30 to 7.30 pm on 23rd January at the Trapdoor @ UCD
Judith Thompson is a two-time winner of the Governor General’s Literary Award for White Biting Dog and The Other Side of the Dark. In 2006 she was invested as an Officer in the Order of Canada and in 2008 she was awarded the prestigious Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for her play Palace of the End. Judith is a professor of drama at the University of Guelph and founding Artistic Director of R.A.R.E. theatre, which is dedicated to bringing the voices of marginalized and invisible communities to the stage
Paula Doherty is currently studying at University College Dublin, where she is in the fourth year undergraduate B.A. degree. Paula is passionate about theatre and has already written a number of plays. Paula attended the Villanova Summer School in the Lir/Abbey Theatre this summer, where she studied Irish drama and was hugely inspired by visiting Prof. Bess Rowan. Paula looks up to the activist Bonnie Greer, playwright, activist, all round cool Lady.
Marianna Moltemi is an international third year English, Drama and Film student at UCD. Raised in Brussels, Belgium, she comes from Italian and Jewish-American heritage. The arts has always been her strength, and she has a passion for acting, having participated in amateur theatre all her life. She also enjoys working with children and aspires to be an educator later in her career.
