Book Launch - Film Comedy and Spain

Matthew Hilborn (IRC PostDoc) will host the launch of his new monograph, (opens in a new window)Film Comedy and Spain: Humour, Genre, and the Nation 1970–2020, published by Legenda/MHRA (2025). The book offers a major new study of Spanish film comedy across the last five decades, exploring how humour has reflected, and at times reshaped, the country’s political and social transformations from late dictatorship to contemporary democracy.

The launch event will take place on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, from 4 - 5pm (GMT) at the Humanities Institute, University College Dublin, Belfield campus (Dublin 4, Ireland).

A wine reception, sponsored by UCD’s School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics, will follow the in-person event.
