Research

The Spatial Dynamics Lab has two main fields of enquiry, TechEvo & iSCAPE

The IScape Logo

iScape

The iSCAPE project works on integrating and advancing the control of air quality and carbon emissions in European cities in the context of climate change through the development of sustainable and passive air pollution remediation strategies, policy interventions and behavioural change initiatives. It tackles the problem of reducing air pollution impacts, focusing on the use of “Passive Control Systems” in urban spaces, on policy intervention and behavioural changes of citizens lifestyle. Projections and real-world physical interventions will be applied on the urban tissue in the selected cities assessed for future climate change scenarios and representative of different cultural & lifestyles in Europe.

TechEvo

New research at University College Dublin (UCD) is focused on developing a new economic framework to boost innovation and drive regional prosperity by looking at the evolution of technology. Scientific and technological expertise acquired in the past strongly determines future development opportunities, but also sets limitations in this regard. While this applies universally, regardless if considered at the personal, corporate, or spatial level, it is of particular interest in the context of cities and regions given that these entities serve as containers of unique knowledge pools.

REALLOCATE

REALLOCATE transforms streets into inclusive, green, safe and future-proof urban spaces, where communities live and thrive. The project enables researchers, mobility experts,  urban planners and local citizens to collectively re-imagine our cities and redesign how we move from one place to another.

C-Newtral Logo

C-NEWTRAL

The aim of C-NEWTRAL Doctoral Network is to advance new approaches for integrated planning of climate-neutral cities through citizen engagement and city governance decision-making support. We will approach climate-neutral cities from multiple dimensions of Urban Nature, Urban Mobility, Built Form, Energy and Circularity.
