Important facilities for plant and crop research include a Cambridge HOK containment (200 m2) & production (Category 2) (355 m2) glasshouse, the Programme for Experimental Atmospheres and Climate facility (PÉAC) and Irish Root and Soil Imaging Facility (IRSI) etc. The PÉAC facility includes 15 future experimental climate chambers with full monitoring & control of climate, atmospheric composition, light, relative humidity and irrigation.
In late 2018, an additional 200 m2 extension will be added to the production glasshouse; a 100 m2 extension will be added to the containment unit and a 100 m2 stand-alone glasshouse will also be constructed.
The Irish Soil and Root Imaging Facility (IRSI) consist of a large capacity 3D X-ray CT scanner (350 KV) with all associated post processing facilities and software. It is housed in the same building as the PÉAC installation allowing seamless transition from experiment to phenotyping and the imposition of both biotic (pathogen) and abiotic (many) stress. A new high resolution X-Ray CT scanner will be added to the suite in Late March 2018.
