Pratikshya Joshi
Pratikshya is a doctoral researcher in the Department of Agroecology at the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE). After obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Troy University, United States, she pursued her interest in plants and genetics with an Erasmus Mundus Master’s degree in Plant Breeding from Polytechnic Institute UniLasalle (France) and Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain).
With her current project at INRAE, she aims to understand the key ecophysiological and molecular processes behind pea response to water deficit and nutrient deficiencies with a focus on root system architecture. The plants will be grown under controlled conditions in a greenhouse and analysed for productivity, hydromineral acquisition and allocation of mineral nutrients to different plant organs. This will be achieved through a structure function analysis framework.
The first part of the project focuses on the ecophysiological combined effects of water deficit and sulfur deficiency on three pea genotypes, in order to determine the interaction between these two stresses, and their impact on root architecture traits and traits related to hydro mineral nutrition.
Secondly, she will apply transient nutrient deficiency of essential mineral nutrients in hydroponic settings to explore the interaction between these elements and their effects on nodulation, nitrogen fixation and yield. In parallel, she will also investigate the uptake, allocation and remobilisation of these elements and the rhizodeposition of metabolites.
