Engaged Research

Engaged research is an approach to academic research that involves active collaboration and partnership between researchers and the communities they study or serve. It aims to address real-world problems and generate knowledge that is relevant, useful, and meaningful to the communities involved. There is an increased focus on aligning strategic research with societal needs, expectations and values, both nationally and within Europe.

Civil Society
Participation of citizens in addressing issues of public concern to strengthen communities and improve quality of life.
Patient Advocacy
Inclusion of patients' perspectives in the research process to improve treatments and understanding of diseases.
NGOs
Consultation with non-governmental organisations, such as charities, on a particular research topic.
Industry
Collaboration between businesses and researchers to address challenges and create mutual value, fostering practical, impactful outcomes.
Government
Working with the government as an active partner and user of research to address public interest issues and societal challenges.
