Radiography

Radiographers are responsible for producing high-quality images to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. While (opens in a new window)Radiography is a caring profession, it’s also one that requires considerable technological and scientific expertise in both the production of images and the responsible delivery of ionising radiation.

If you are interested in Science and you want to use your knowledge to care for people then Radiography in UCD may be a perfect fit for you.

UCD has now introduced a graduate entry pathway to Radiography. The programme is 2.5 years long.

If you will hold a level 8 honours degree in any discipline with a minimum award level of 2.2 by June 2026, you are eligible to apply for the graduate entry Radiography degree. Applicants must hold a minimum grade O6 (OD3) in a laboratory science subject in the Leaving Certificate (or equivalent).

Applicants must also present evidence of having completed appropriate research activity within their primary degree. (Please note this research activity requirement is due to be removed for entry in 2026 and onwards, subject to final approval). 

You should apply via the (opens in a new window)Central Applications Office (CAO)* to the Level 8 course code  DN411 Radiography - Graduate Entry.

The application closing date is 5.15pm on 1 February prior to entry.

Late applications (up to 1 May) will be considered subject to availability of places following assessment of the 1 February applications.

  1. A copy of your transcript and evidence of your degree award. You may also be requested to supply a full syllabus to facilitate a decision.
  2. Evidence of having completed appropriate research activity within your primary degree. Such activity should equate to a minimum of 5 ECTS and might include:
    ·         a research methods module
    ·         a research dissertation / thesis
    (Please note this research activity requirement is due to be removed for entry in 2026 and onwards, subject to final approval)
  3. Personal Statement (mandatory) explaining:
    ·         Your reasons for wishing to undertake a Radiography degree
    ·         How this degree will contribute to your plans for the future
    ·         Anything else relevant to your application.
  4. References (three letters of recommendation: academic, work experience and one other).
  5. Any other documents as specified in of the CAO Handbook.

Documents required for assessment purposes must be submitted to CAO within two weeks of application. Documents submitted later than this may not be available to us in time for assessment.

Exception: Transcripts for 2026 degrees only will be accepted if received by CAO no later than Monday, 6 July 2026.

Applicants will be ranked on the basis of: 

  1. Academic Ability (Honours Bachelor’s degree [NFQ Level 8] at the minimum level of 2.2). Transcript of degree and final award should be submitted.
  2. Research activity within their primary degree. (Please note this research activity requirement is due to be removed for entry in 2026 and onwards, subject to final approval).
  3. Science background - a minimum of O6 (OD3) in the Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) is required.
  4. Motivation and Interest (as explained in their Personal Statement).
  5. Evidence of work experience, personal and professional development.
  6. References.
  7. Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend for interview. (Applicants are strongly encouraged to visit a radiology department prior to interview).
