Deferring an offer

NB This page is for direct applicants only. CAO applicants please see separate deferral page.

How do I request a deferral?

If you receive a firm offer and wish to defer your place you should select the Request to defer action button against the relevant programme, which displays on your application account.

N.B. While the Request to defer action button may display, some programmes may be excluded from deferrals.

For further advice you should contact the School or Unit * which has made you the offer.

*Non-EU applicants should contact UCD Global for further advice, Global Enquiry or relevant Global Centre.

You will be required to pay a €500 deferral charge. If the deposit has already been paid then this is not required. This deferral charge / deposit will be set against the tuition fee for the subsequent year, when you avail of the place, and it is not an additional financial burden on you.

What if I don't pay the deferral charge?

If you don't pay the deferral charge within the specified timeframe, the deferred entry place will be forfeited. You can, of course, apply again the following year in the normal way and be assessed in competition with other applicants.

Do I have to apply again the following year?

No. We will transfer your application to the following year provided you have deferred formally and have paid the deferral charge.

An offer will be issued to you which you will then need to accept in the normal way.

Do all schools offer a deferral facility?

No. Schools are not obliged to offer a deferral facility. Schools can exclude any or all of their courses from deferrals.
