UCD Dropbox for Research
As part of the EQUIP scheme Research IT are offering UCD Researchers access to a 2 year pilot research data Cloud storage offering via Dropbox for Research. The pilot is designed to ascertain initial interest among the UCD Research community.
This service is designed to help research groups with their data during the “active” part of the research data lifecycle which occurs when researchers are gathering and analysing large amounts of raw data. With Dropbox for Research researchers will be able to collaborate easily with external researchers via sending a link or sharing the data directly as part of the group.
Advantages of Dropbox for Research
- Ease of use
- Unlimited storage
- Easy to collaborate with member of your Research group
- Collaborate with external academic researchers
- Access and Authentication via UCD Single-Sign-on
What Dropbox for Research is NOT suitable for
- Sensitive data
- For use as a long-term archiving tool
- As a long term data repository
- Server or scientific instrumental backup solution
Expressions of Interest should in the first instance be logged with the Request Something of the IT Support Hub. To apply on behalf of your research group, you will need to be either a Head of a Research group or a Principal Investigator.
Manage, store and secure your research data during the active phase of your research project.
IRLDAT
Background
The purpose of the IRLDAT project is to design, build and implement a pilot data storage solution for researchers that will offer a range of data management services. The pilot would be designed so that it could be enlarged and replicated on a national level for the benefit and use for researchers on the island of Ireland. The IRLDAT pilot was funded through the National Action Plan for Open Research by (opens in a new window)NORF.
