UCD Resilience and Health Laboratory
About
The UCD Resilience and Health Laboratory (R&H Lab) was established in 2020 by Associate Professor Niki Nearchou. The Lab is a nexus of generating research on understanding the complex mechanisms underpinning risk and resilience and the ways these mechanisms influence the mental and physical health of children, adolescents and adults.
The Resilience and Health lab comprises faculty, graduate researchers and research staff. The Lab hosts Erasmus+ exchange students and offers placement to national and international students. The Lab maintains a wide collaborative network of national and international researchers, and professionals that reflect the interdisciplinary and translational nature of our work. Our research has received national and international funding from different bodies such as the European Social Fund, the UCD Seed Funding, the Greek National Funds, Healthy Ireland and the Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.
Our research agenda carries a translational value across several domains. Our mission is to generate evidence-based knowledge with real life implications that can help inform research, policy and practice, which can sustain and improve well-being and quality of life. We are committed to disseminating and communicating our research at audiences across all levels.
Our aims are
- To develop a resilience framework for youth and adults exposed to adversities such as violence, child maltreatment, chronic physical & mental illness, stigma, war conflict and natural disasters.
- To sustain and promote psychological well-being, physical health and quality of life across lifespan by applying a broader socio-ecological approach.
- To inform and enhance the psychological measurement of resilience and well-being in research and clinical practice by generating robust psychometric evidence.
