What do planners do?

Planners work to achieve sustainable development on the ground through making plans and taking decisions that chart a way forward that ensures balance between environmental, social and economic issues.

Planning as a career offers a great variety of opportunities to work in a meaningful way to shape and influence the places we live in directly. Planners can be found working in both the public and private sectors, mostly in local authorities and planning consultancies, but are also employed by housing construction companies, infrastructure providers, energy companies, regeneration agencies and environmental organisations.
