BACKTRACK
The BACKTRACK Project, funded by Science Foundation Ireland and Irish Aid, is an innovative health-related collaborative research project between UCD, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda and the Insight Centre for Data Analytics.
BACKTRACK focuses on low back pain, the biggest contributor to disability worldwide. Led by Associate Professor Cliona O’Sullivan and Professor Brian Caulfield, the project team co-designed a digital clinical decision support system for non-specialist health workers in Uganda. This system facilitates the identification of back pain cases suitable for self-management, enables the dispatch of advice, and identifies those requiring specialist review, ensuring timely access to evidence-based care.
