BMoral: New Histories of British Moral Philosophy in the Eighteenth Century (c.1690–1800)

Friday, 24 January, 2025

Huge congratulations to Ruth Boeker on winning an ERC Consolidator Grant!

Her five-year project aims to fundamentally rethink existing narratives about eighteenth-century British moral philosophy. It offers exciting opportunities for reviving women’s philosophical contributions to the moral debates during that period.

The project will analyse a large corpus of moral writings by male and female philosophers and the interactions among them. It intends to identify philosophical themes that have been understudied or neglected so far and has the potential to shift the conceptual focus of eighteenth-century British moral philosophy as well as to provide resources for transforming the history of philosophy more broadly.

The project budget includes funding for three postdoctoral positions and a fully-funded PhD scholarship. Further details about these positions will be announced in due course.
