Professor Keane also spoke about Professor Marguerite Clyne’s career in the UCD School of Medicine since 2000, which has been defined by pioneering leadership in research, institutional development and EDI, to mark her retirement in January 2025.
As our first Associate Dean of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Professor Clyne transformed our institutional culture. She led the School team to achieve the Athena Swan Bronze Award, creating a more inclusive environment in the education of our students, our clinical placements and our working environment. Her passionate commitment to EDI has laid an enduring foundation on which we will continue to build.
Professor Clyne's work on bacterial pathogenesis and collaborative research projects, including significant studies on Staphylococcus aureus and international microbiological research, has advanced our understanding in critical areas of medical science.
Beyond research, she has been an exceptional educator and academic leader. She has supervised research students, chaired critical committees, coordinated modules, adjudicated and supervised students for the SSRA, and consistently contributed to our school's academic excellence.
Professor Clyne’s legacy is not just in her achievements, but in the culture of innovation, inclusivity, and scientific rigour she has cultivated. While Professor Clyne is retiring, her impact will continue to resonate through the generations of researchers and students she has inspired.
We thank Professor Clyne, and we wish her the very best.
The All School Meeting was followed by a Christmas Reception at the UCD Club. Thanks to all those who were able to attend.
We wish everyone a happy and safe holiday break and all the best for a terrific 2025.
A special thanks to Jimmy Fitzpatrick for organising the All School Meeting and to the School Administration team for organising the Christmas Reception.
