Edward Patrick McLoughlin

Patrick McLoughlinEdward McLoughlin is remembered as an athlete, anatomist, administrator, agriculturalist and amateur of many pursuits, including travel and photography. He is also remembered for his enthusiasm, boundless energy, natural good taste and singular concentration of his talent.

In 1904, Ambrose Birmingham invited Edward to return home from his otologist practice in London to help Ambrose at the old Cecelia Street Medical School of the Catholic University.

When Ambrose died in 1905 McLoughlin, Edward was appointed Professor of Anatomy and with the founding of the NUL, he was appointed to that Chair in the UCD School of Medicine and elected Dean of its Medical Faculty.

Edward held these positions until his retirement as an Emeritus Professor in 1942, having been honored by the University with an MD.
