World-Class Imaging & Clinical Facilities

Learning methods include lectures, small group tutorials, interactive demonstrations, with hands-on clinical learning at UCD and across our clinical network, emphasising an enquiry based learning approach both in the classroom and in clinical imaging departments.

Assessment methods include practical skills- based exams, image-based assessments, continuous assessment, report writing, oral presentations, and written examinations. Students will engage in both individual and group-based assessment activities to foster

Radiography practice will first be demonstrated and practiced in UCD’s own imaging facilities, before you progress to performing examinations on patients. Teaching hospital staff also actively contribute to your professional education and development, and you will work alongside radiography colleagues to learn and refine your professional skills and clinical decision-making. Clinical exposure during year-one will ensure that you are professionally- and patient-focused early in your studies. You will undertake at least 1,000 hours of hospital-based practice over the duration of the course, much of which takes place during the summer periods.

It may be possible for students to undertake short-term international elective opportunities at various stages during the course, based on competitive selection.

Diagnostic imaging is a growth area in Ireland and internationally. Over the past six years,  all graduates of this programme have obtained employment as radiographers. As well as the traditional hospital-based career, some radiographers are employed as imaging equipment applications or sales specialists. An increasing number of graduates are now undertaking PhD studies. Diagnostic imaging offers successful graduates exciting opportunities to pursue research and/or to develop specialist clinical skills in their chosen area(s) of imaging.

Comprising more than 2,200 full-time enrollments of Irish and International students and representing over 150 different nationalities, our large and culturally diverse student community is the heartbeat of the School.

From a young age I always wanted a job in healthcare as I found myself drawn to caring for people. Radiography combines my love for Science with the patient-care aspect of healthcare.

Radiographers are central to the patient pathway from initial presentation to diagnosis, making our job fulfilling and diverse. From my first day at UCD to becoming a qualified Radiographer, I received constant support from UCD which made me the Radiographer I am today.

Radiography is a diverse and ever-growing field with a variety of career paths. I am so excited for what the future holds for me.
