UCD School of Medicine was delighted to return to an in-person RUMC White Coat and Farewell Ceremony on 1 December 2021.
Hosted by Professor Cecily Kelleher, College Prinicpal, UCD College of Health & Agricultural Sciences and Professor Michael Keane, Dean of Medicine and Head of UCD School of Medicine and attended by His Excellency Ambassador Mr. Zakaria Bin Nasir, the ceremony marks the end of our RUMC students' pre-clinical training in Dublin and the beginning of the clinical portion of their programme in Penang, Malaysia.
Associate Professor Patrick Felle, Associate Dean, International Relations took the opportunity to thank Associate Professor Stuart Bund who after 10 years in the position, handed over the Chair of the Medical Degrees Programme (MDC1) to Associate Professor Albert Smolenski. Associate Professor Bund was founding Chair of MDC1 and has been crucial to its development as a critical component of the RUMC programme.
RUMC celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year. Originally established in 1996 as Penang Medical College, the RCSI-UCD Malaysia Campus is a foreign branch campus of both University College Dublin and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. To date RUMC has graduated nearly 2,000 doctors who are practising in countries around the world, including Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Ireland, UK, Malta, Australia, New Zealand, and USA.
