Prof Desmond Bohn graduated from UCD School of Medicine in 1969. He commenced his professional career with an internship followed by intensive postgraduate training in anesthesia in Bristol from 1971 to 1975. Prof Bohn's dedication to advancing paediatric critical care medicine led him to pursue a fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto Canada, in 1975. In 1981, he assumed the role of Staff Intensivist in the Department of Critical Care Medicine, and in 2001, he was appointed as Department Chief, a position he held until his retirement from the hospital in 2011. In recognition of his expertise and leadership, Prof Bohn undertook the role of Provincial Medical Director for CritiCall Ontario in 2011, further solidifying his impact on critical care medicine at a regional level.
Prof Bohn's contributions extend beyond his clinical roles; from 1999 to 2011, he served as Professor of Anesthesia and Pediatrics at the University of Toronto. Additionally, he has held esteemed positions such as past-president of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society and founding chair of the Ontario Pediatric Critical Care Network.
