Dr Meagher is an Associate Professor of Medicine at McGill University in Montreal, and a general internist at the McGill University Health Centre.
Following an internship in Dublin, he completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at McGill University and joined the attending staff at the Montreal General Hospital as a clinician-teacher in 1982. He has held several leadership positions, including Director of Postgraduate Education in Medicine at McGill, Chief of Medicine at the Montreal General Hospital, and Director of Medical Affairs at the McGill University Health Center. In this latter role he oversaw the clinical planning and operation of the center’s six hospitals and played a key role in the development of its $1.2 billion state-of-the-art facility, which opened in 2015. As part of this work, Dr Meagher led the largest ever university-hospital strategic planning exercise in Canada. Beyond clinical practice, he is currently Canadian VP and Medical Director at Munich Re, the world’s largest life reinsurer.
