Dr Niamh Power is an airline pilot and Captain with Aer Lingus, and a former trainee in orthopaedic surgery. She graduated from UCD School of Medicine in 1994, and became a FRCSI in 1997. She was a registrar in orthopaedic surgery in St. Vincent’s University Hospital before leaving her medical career to join Aer Lingus as a Cadet Pilot in June 1999. She trained at CAE Oxford in the UK and at Arizona State University at Phoenix–Mesa Gateway Airport in the US. She has flown on both the Airbus 320 and 330 fleet, and is currently a Captain on the A320/A320Neo/A321Neo fleet serving Europe and North America. She briefly returned to medicine during the pandemic, starting a Covid testing company and was a vaccinator with the HSE. She is a mother of four and lives with her husband, children, and dog in Clontarf, Dublin.
