Masculinities, Politics, and Personal Relationships among Young Irish Men
Investigates the masculine trajectories of Irish men aged 18-25 and how they navigate the influence from family, friends and other role models. The project explores how these young men integrate contradictions between hegemonic masculinities and caring masculinities within the rise of the extreme right movement in Ireland and the manosphere. Principal Investigator: Michael Colaiaco, PhD Candidate
Michael Colaiaco graduated with an MSc in Equality studies from University College Dublin in December 2021. Following graduation, he served as a research assistant on various projects, including an internal review of UCD’s Gender Studies MA, a literature review on Universal Basic Income in Europe, and as a consultant on UCD’s Inclusive Digital Map. Michael was then hired by the UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science, serving as their EDI Researcher, and helping coordinate their successful Athena SWAN Silver Application. In September 2024, Michael began the PhD Programme in Social Justice, which focuses on masculinities, politics, and personal relationships among young Irish men.
