EDI in the Law School

EDI at UCD

The School is committed to creating an environment where diversity is celebrated and everyone is treated fairly regardless of gender, age, race, disability, ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, civil status, family status, membership of the travelling community or socio-economic status.

Dignity and respect

All members of the School community have the right to study or work in an environment free from bullying, harassment and sexual harassment.

We are committed to ensuring that everyone in the Law School is able to engage in learning and research in an inclusive environment based on mutual respect. Each member of the School, staff and student alike, is expected to behave with respect towards, and to honour the dignity and diversity of, everyone in the School. The School takes breaches of dignity and respect through bullying, harassment, including sexual harassment very seriously. Should you experience or witness any behaviour that falls below these essential and strongly held values, you can contact the Dignity & Respect Support Service and rest assured that any approach you make will be treated confidentially, seriously and sensitively. Please also consult the section on EDI supports below.

For definitions of what constitutes bullying and harassment, including sexual harassment, visit UCD’s website on Dignity & Respect, which brings together information on the supports available in relation to bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct. The website also provides guidance on how to raise concerns and the options for resolving issues of a dignity and respect nature. You will find information on the Bullying and Harassment Policy and Sexual Misconduct Policy, the processes for raising and addressing concerns, and the supports and training available.

Race and ethnic equality

Visit UCD’s pages on Race and Ethnic Equality to learn more about the University’s ongoing work in this area. In September 2023, UCD’s President signed the HEA Anti-Racism Principles for Irish Higher Education Institutions; the Principles are available (opens in a new window)here

EDI supports and confidential contacts

A broad range of Dignity & Respect supports is available at university level.

Students, employees and visitors to UCD can report anonymously through the UCD Report and Support tool, access information about the supports that are available, and learn about the options for resolution, including making a formal complaint.

In addition to Dignity & Respect Support Advisers, at university level, a panel of Dignity and Respect Support Colleagues is available to all UCD employees. Further information regarding the role of the Support Colleagues and how to contact them is available here.
