Security Alert: Beware of New Fake Cloudflare / ClickFix Malware Scam, 17 November

Monday, 17 November 25

What is happening:

Scammers are creating fake Cloudflare-branded landing pages ( e.g. fake captcha) that look legitimate which can include fake educational sites. These pages falsely claim to assist users in resolving security issues.

How the Scam Works:

  1. You land on a fake "security" page.
  2. It tells you to copy and paste code into your device to "fix" a problem.
  3. DO NOT DO THIS! The code is malicious and gives attackers control of your device where it will steal Passwords, files, gain access to academic portals, email, and network resources.

Ways to Protect Yourself:

  • Check the URL: Look closely for spelling errors on the website address.
  • Never Paste Code: Legitimate services will not ask you to paste complex code to fix an issue.
  • Stay Updated: Keep your antivirus/security software current. Report Suspicious Activity! Contact the IT Helpdesk via UCD IT Support Hub: www.ucd.ie/ithelp or tel:+353 1 716 2700, ext: 2700

When is it happening:

Monday, 17 November.

Who will this affect:

Staff and students.
