Terms of Use and Conditions for Dropbox for Research

UCD Dropbox for Research Terms and Conditions

January 2026

Your research data as per GDPR requirements is stored in the EU.

Dropbox is not suitable for the storage of sensitive data.

UCD Dropbox for Research uses UCD SSO (Single Sign-On) and MFA so you need a UCD Connect account and to use a UCD email address.

You and the members of your research team are required to protect your data in accordance with the UCD IT Security and GDPR policy requirements. You and your research team have final and overall responsibility for the safety of your data.

For more information please see the UCD GDPR website:

We can accommodate a request to get set up with access to UCD Dropbox for Research for your Research Group.

This would need to be requested and managed by a Research Supervisor/PI and they can do this by filling out the request form:

A UCD Research Supervisor/PI can request to set up a Dropbox Group, Team Folder which they would manage.

The current offering for storage space is 4 TB for a Dropbox Team Folder.

If you have a previous existing Dropbox account you may be asked if you would like to integrate it with your new Dropbox account. If you decide to add old data to your new account, please ensure there is no sensitive data and that the storage quota doesn’t exceed 15 GB.

As part of the process Dropbox might ask you if you want to migrate your currently stored data into the UCD Dropbox folder. This is up to you but just to be aware that you are migrating the stored data to the UCD Dropbox for Research account.

We may be in touch periodically to ensure that accounts are actively in use and may retrieve inactive accounts to accommodate demand for licenses.

This service is available for UCD Staff and registered UCD Research Students. For UCD Research Students this would need to be requested by their Research Supervisor/PI who would manage the UCD Dropbox for Research Group and Team Folder.

The UCD Dropbox For Research Terms and Conditions may be periodically updated.
