IRLDAT
The purpose of the IRLDAT project is to design, build and implement a pilot data storage solution for researchers that will offer a range of data management services. The pilot would be designed so that it could be enlarged and replicated on a national level for the benefit and use for researchers on the island of Ireland. The IRLDAT pilot was funded through the National Action Plan for Open Research by (opens in a new window)NORF.

What is IRLDAT?
UCD Research IT is partnering with (opens in a new window)HEAnet, (opens in a new window)ICHEC, (opens in a new window)UCC, (opens in a new window)SETU and (opens in a new window)EUDAT in IRLDAT, a two-year project to design, develop, and deliver a Shared Data Storage Service Pilot. Funded as a priority action of the (opens in a new window)National Open Research Forum (NORF), IRLDAT has explored and tested potential approaches to research data management service provision during the active phase of the research data life cycle, and is currently enabling the research community to access a national shared storage infrastructure in order to verify appetite for such services and test their fitness for purpose.
Use cases include inter-organisational sharing and active storage of geodata for projects under the UCD hosted (opens in a new window)iCRAG Research Ireland Centre for Applied Geoscience. The IRLDAT pilot has been used to define the scope of a sustainable national scale production service. Based on this it will produce a report for policymakers and funders in Q4 of 2024 and is seeking funding for continued operation.
