Former Akamai Executive Announced as Independent Director of Binarii Labs in the US and as Angel Investor

(opens in a new window)Binarii Labs, an Irish company redefining data security and digital sovereignty, today announced the appointment of Sean McDermott, a former Akamai executive, as an Independent Director of Binarii Labs in the US. The company also announced that Sean McDermott is participating as an angel investor in the company’s current €1.85 million funding round which it expects to close shortly.

Binarii Labs is headquartered at NovaUCD in Dublin and is an Enterprise Ireland client company.  

Sean McDermott has over two decades of executive leadership in global software and cloud infrastructure. He spent 20 years at Akamai Technologies, where he held senior engineering and executive roles, including Vice-President of Engineering for Akamai Labs and for Private Cloud Strategy. During his tenure, he helped drive major innovations in distributed systems and was recognised with the ACM SIGCOMM Networking Systems Award for his contributions to internet infrastructure.

Since 2019, Sean has been active in the early-stage investment community as a Limited Partner with Santa Barbara Venture Partners and One Dream Ventures, and as a member of Tech Coast Angels in Los Angeles.

Sean will join the Binarii Labs team at the 2025 Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal next week, where the company will showcase its sovereign data-security platform and meet with enterprise and investment partners from across the US and Europe.
