Position summary:
The School of Information and Communication Studies ICS) is a diverse, interdisciplinary and fully research active school. The School is committed to high quality interdisciplinary research and teaching on information related areas and ranks among the top 50 Library and Information Studies programmes worldwide in the QS rankings. ICS is now looking for an Assistant Professor to conduct high quality research and teach on our Library Association of Ireland (LAI) accredited Masters in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) and other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The appointee will be expected to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and to supervise Masters and PhD students. The appointee will diversify and enhance the academic activities carried out by other colleagues in the School and will work collaboratively with them in the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and administrative tasks as well as growing postgraduate research in ICS.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the successful candidate include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
• Undertake high quality research and publish in highly regarded international peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and/or monographs.
• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules, particularly in Library and Information Studies.
• Supervise Master’s theses and MLIS capstone projects.
• Supervise PhD students and serve on supervisory and examination panels
• Undertake administrative duties as required by the school.
• Contribute to the academic life of the School, College and the University.
• Contribute to professional and scholarly communities
• Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School.
95 Lecturer/Asst Professor Above the Bar (7943) Salary Scale: €64,112 - €101,524 Per Annum
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
Mandatory:
• PhD in Library and Information Studies or a related discipline.
• Evidence (via publications, research grants) of an upward research trajectory in areas of importance to LIS teaching and research. Topics include but are not limited to: scholarly communication, critical library and information studies, equity/diversity/inclusion and information, information literacy, emergent technologies in library and information studies, data and digital curation/stewardship, public service, information and cultural heritage, outreach/community engagement and information services, or health information.
• Evidence of ability to teach core and optional modules on the Masters in Library and Information Studies.
• Evidence of teaching experience in a range of settings (face to face, online, and/or hybrid).
• Capacity to undertake academic administrative/service work.
• A demonstrated commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, broadly defined.
Desirable:
• Evidence of the ability teach a range of courses outside the applicant’s areas of specialist research interest as relevant to the School’s educational programmes.
• Evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Experience of writing and submitting grant applications to external national and international funding agencies.
• Evidence of activity and engagement with information professionals in Ireland and/or internationally (in private or public sector organisations).
• Experience teaching a multicultural student body.
