General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a European Union Regulation that has been designed to strengthen and unify Data Protection within the EU. The GDPR came into effect on 25 May 2018.

The GDPR harmonises Data Protection practices across the EU and emphasises transparency, security and accountability by data controllers and processors, while at the same time standardising and strengthening the right of European citizens to privacy of their personal data.

Confidentiality

As part of your engagement with the University, you are required to maintain confidentiality regarding any information you may encounter in the course of your duties. This obligation extends to all sensitive information, including but not limited to research, financial, and personal data. You are prohibited from disclosing or using such information for any purposes other than those expressly authorised by the University. This duty of confidentiality shall remain in force both during and after the termination of your appointment, in accordance with applicable law.

Data Protection

You are required to comply with the University’s Data Protection policies and procedures, which are governed by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679, and the Data Protection Acts 1988, 2003, and 2018. This includes any processing of personal data, whether as a data subject, data controller, or data processor. You must ensure that any personal data you access or process is handled securely and in accordance with the University’s data protection obligations. You also acknowledge the University's right to monitor compliance with these policies.

Intellectual Property

You acknowledge that all intellectual property created during the course of your engagement with the University, including inventions, research findings, designs, and works of authorship, shall be subject to the University's intellectual property policies. This includes policies concerning the ownership, protection, and commercialisation of intellectual property, as well as any related provisions regarding campus companies or collaborative projects. You agree to abide by these policies and assist the University in safeguarding and managing any intellectual property created as part of your role.

Employee File Request

Under the freedom of information act every employee of the university is entitled to see their employee file.  This file contains all the relevant documentation showing the career path of an individual from initially applying for a position in the university up until they either become a pensioner or leave the university.  To request a copy of your HR file please follow this link.
