Healthy UCD Strategy, 2022-2026
“Healthy Ireland” is a national framework (2013-2025) for action set out by the Department of Health to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Ireland. The vision is one where everyone can enjoy physical and mental health and wellbeing to their full potential, where wellbeing is supported at every level of society and is everyone’s responsibility.
Part of the Healthy Ireland vision is to work in partnership with Higher Education Institutes in developing a Health Promoting campus model of health promotion. At UCD, we understand that we impact the health and wellbeing of not only the staff, faculty and students who spend a significant amount of time in our care, but also their families and the wider community in which the university is located. As the largest university in Ireland, we have the ability and indeed a duty to influence decision makers, act as catalysts for change and to encourage dialogue on health promotion. As a research-intensive university we contribute to the creation of knowledge on public health and health promotion in a globalized world.
Since the publication of the initial UCD Health Promotion Strategy and establishment of the Healthy UCD initiative in 2016, the Healthy Ireland framework implementation has progressed substantially, and particularly relevant to Healthy UCD was the introduction of the Healthy Campus Framework and Charter for third-level institutions. The Framework is based on principles of participation, partnership, evidence-based and sustainability.
With this in mind, a new Healthy UCD Strategy has been developed for the period 2022-2026, aiming to build on the successes of the original UCD Health Promotion strategy and further strengthen the role of health promotion within the University. Our vision in this newly launched strategy is to establish UCD as a model for a healthy campus, advancing the health and wellbeing of all members of the UCD community through a coordinated approach.

UCD's Breaking Boundaries Strategy to 2030
The UCD Strategy to 2030 is about breaking the boundaries of existing knowledge in our research, scholarship and innovation to deliver fundamental results on important questions. It is about combining creatively across disciplines and working with partners to drive impact and excellence in the education and research that we deliver. It is about growing access to our education for a more diverse community of learners across the course of their lives, and engaging nationally and globally with intent and agility. UCD is Ireland’s global university, an inclusive community and a driver of positive action for sustainability, and these attributes will be evident across our actions.
