23 Things International

23 Things International is a collaborative online course that will introduce you to 23 digital tools and technologies to support your research work and career development. You will enhance your strategic thinking, productivity and professional profile while building relationships with other researchers in related disciplines around the world.

The programme is open to researchers of all disciplines and career stages and will be particularly valuable for early career researchers, doctoral and masters researchers, and research supervisors.

The programme usually runs from March to June, with two break weeks built into the timetable.

How does it work?

  1. Each week two blogs – 'Things' – will be released, covering a topic or piece of software that can enhance how you work. The blogs are written by academics and experts, sharing real experience and know-how, and come with suggestions for further exploration and reading to help you to maximise the benefit of topics most relevant to you.
  2. Participants are grouped into 'pods' with researchers from other institutions who share overlapping research interests, providing a chance to build international networks and broaden your perspective. Pods meet online through a dedicated Discord server – you will receive instructions for joining Discord upon registering for the programme. It is up to pods to arrange a meeting schedule that works for most members, but most pods choose to meet 1–3 times per month to discuss the latest Things and encourage each other with the various activities in the programme.
  3. There is no formal assessment at the end of the programme. However, if you read all the blogs and attempt at least half the tasks, you will be awarded a certificate and digital badge.

How do I get involved?
