Research programmes at UCD
Research degree and Professional Doctorate degree programmes involve students carrying out research in an area of their choosing, under the guidance of a principal supervisor, and in some cases a co-supervisor, and supported by a Research Studies Panel (RSP). The degree is awarded following successful completion of a programme of supervised research and advanced education and training. Students on a professional doctorate also need to demonstrate the capacity to apply knowledge in a professional practice setting.
Master's Level Research Degree Programmes
Master’s level research aims to develop in the student the skills and competencies required to conduct research and may, but does not necessarily, result in the creation of new knowledge.
Doctoral Level Degree Programmes
A doctoral degree (NFQ level 10) is awarded where the outcome of the research makes an original and substantial contribution to knowledge. UCD offers two doctoral degrees:
