Universitas 21 early career researcher workshop -- apply now

UCD early career researchers are invited to apply now for the Universitas 21 Early Career Researcher Workshop, hosted by the University of Nottingham from 1-5 September 2025.

Themed ‘Living Well Across the Life Course’, this five-day, in-person programme will focus on a range of global wellbeing challenges. These include health and social disparities, access to healthcare, the influence of education systems and physical environments, and the growing impact of climate change.

Two researchers will be selected to participate in this opportunity. Travel and accommodation for selected researchers will be provided by UCD Global.

What to expect

Participants will engage in a programme of interactive sessions, working in cross-disciplinary groups on a joint challenge related to the theme. The workshop is designed to promote knowledge sharing, peer learning, and the opportunity to present your own research in a global context.

Key benefits

In addition to thematic exploration, the workshop will provide a strong focus on collaboration, networking, and gaining an international perspective on:

  • Funding opportunities, including international projects
  • Researcher leadership and development
  • Communicating research effectively and understanding its impact
  • Translating research ideas and connecting with R&D industry partners
  • Exploring career paths for researchers in various sectors

Who can apply?

This opportunity is open to early career researchers from all disciplines who are within eight years of completing their PhD. U21 recognises that research careers are not always linear; applicants with time spent in industry or career breaks are welcome. UCD will select two researchers to travel to Nottingham to participate.
