UCD staff - apply now for a funded mobility at the University of Ghana

Staff mobility opportunity

Apply now to spend a week at the University of Ghana

UCD staff are invited to apply for an opportunity to spend seven days (fully funded) at the Centre for Social Policy Studies at the University of Ghana based in Accra. Funding is available to send up to five members of staff for this short term exchange opportunity. You must be available to complete the exchange before 31 July 2025. If selected, you will be able to undertake your exchange at any point before 31 July 2025 with the exact date of your exchange to be agreed between you and your contact at the host university. The deadline to apply is 25 April 2025.

What would I do during the exchange?

If you are interested in this exchange, there are two options available in terms of the activities you would undertake:

1) Academic staff can complete a staff mobility for teaching. With this option, you would be required to teach for 8 hours per week. Teaching activities can include lectures, student seminars or tutorials, one to one teaching or public lectures. You would be expected to put forward a teaching plan which would be agreed in advance with the host university.

2) Professional or academic staff can complete a staff mobility for training. With this option, you would be required to put forward a programme of self-development activities that you would propose undertaking at the host university. Examples of eligible activities include job shadowing, meeting with specific members of staff on areas relevant to your role (e.g. internationalisation strategies, specific technical or administrative procedures, bid writing), undertaking technical training, library or facility visits. You would also be encouraged to consider what areas of expertise you would share with the host university during your mobility. It is also possible to undertake a combined teaching and training mobility which includes elements of teaching and self development activities.

About the project

These opportunities form part of a larger project focused on developing a localised approach to humanitarian action education - find out more about the project here. It is not essential to demonstrate a link with the focus of the wider project but if demand exceeds supply, proposals from staff which link well to this project will be given priority.

Am I eligible to apply?
● You must be a staff member at UCD - both teaching and professional staff are eligible to apply
● You must be available to complete the mobility by 31 July 2025.

How to apply

1. Please send a short cover letter (1 page maximum) to (opens in a new window)erasmusicm@ucd.ie explaining why you wish to visit the Centre for Social Policy Studies at the University of Ghana, your proposed activities whilst there and how this would benefit both UCD and the host university.
2. Please attach an outline proposal (1 page maximum) of:
a. the teaching activities you would propose undertaking (if you wish to complete a teaching mobility) OR
b. the self-development activities you would propose undertaking (if you wish to complete a training mobility)

If demand exceeds supply, applicants who are able to show links between their proposed activities and the focus area of the wider project (humanitarian action education) will be prioritised.

Selection process

● A committee consisting of representatives from the University of Ghana and UCD will select participants
● If demand exceeds supply, selection will be based on how well the proposed mobility activities fit with the needs of the host university and links to the wider project.

What funding would I receive?

The selected staff will each receive:

1. A travel grant of €820 to cover the cost of return flights from Dublin to Accra
2. A daily grant of €180 per day to cover the cost of your food, accommodation and other expenses while in Ghana

This opportunity is funded through the Erasmus+ Key Action 171. Erasmus+ Key Action KA171 (also known as International Credit Mobility) is a strand of the Erasmus+ programme that supports academic mobility of staff and students between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Erasmus+ programme countries and the east of Europe as well as the rest of the world.
