Application Information for North American Students

Medicine Applicants at UCD: FAQs

Please note that the advice provided on this page is intended for North American residents only, applying as Non-EU fee-eligible applicants.

For applicants residing in other regions, please contact us for more information.

How to apply?

Applications open on 1 October each year.

The deadline to apply is 31 January, and late applications will not be considered.

Atlantic Bridge has earlier application deadlines. If applying via Atlantic Bridge, you should reach out to them as soon as possible for full application details and deadlines.

Yes. You will be contacted directly by the School of Medicine if selected for an interview.

No, interviews can be conducted virtually when needed.

The interview aims to assess your knowledge of, and interest in, the profession, as well as your motivation for studying in the UCD Medicine program.

We recommend you familiarize yourself with the program information, research activities and recent updates with the program and the School of Medicine. The interview will also help to assess how you will cope with the challenges of studying and living abroad for an extended period of time.

It may be possible to receive Recognition of Prior Learning for certain courses, though UCD cannot guarantee any transfer of credit.

All Non-EU applicants should apply to Medicine as first-year students. You can then apply for transfer credit if your application is successful. Receiving an offer of admission to a program does not guarantee that you will be successful in any RPL application to have prior learning recognised. In all cases, it is highly unlikely that transfer credit will reduce the overall time in the program.

If you would like to have prior or concurrent learning recognised to count towards your Medicine program, you should complete the RPL application form if you have accepted an offer of a place.

Other Questions

UCD does not currently offer scholarships to our medicine courses.

Eligibility for EU fees is based on numerous factors, including a combination of citizenship and residency. You should review the information on the EU Fee Assessment page to learn more about EU fee eligibility and reach out to UCD as soon as possible if you have questions about your eligibility.

UCD is unable to provide individual feedback on application decisions.

Reserve

This is where candidates have been reviewed and are eligible, and also the School has indicated that they would like to approve an offer, should a place become available.

Waitlist

This is where the program is full and no further places are being considered at this time, but this may change if places become available. The difference is that waitlisted candidates have not yet been reviewed by the Global Centre, so eligibility has not been assessed. They are on a Waitlist to be reviewed.
