Student Services
We recognise that studying at university can be both a brilliant and stressful time for students. That's why we have a great support network for students at UCD.
From health services to specific programme advisers, student welfare and support is at the heart of what we do here.
Student Advisers
Student Advisers provide support for all students throughout their university experience.
Each programme has a dedicated Student Adviser, who is your gateway to support services. Additionally, there are Student Advisers attached to specific groups of students, such as mature and postgraduate research students.
If you are experiencing any difficulties, Student Advisers can give you the time and space you need to talk things through.
Student Counselling
The UCD Student Counselling Service offers a free and confidential service staffed by qualified psychologists and counsellors.
It provides support for students when personal issues arise, which affect their happiness, well-being, capacity to cope, relationships or learning.
Financial Support
You may find yourself in need of financial support during your time at UCD for a number of reasons.
It could be due to a limited income, unexpected events like illness or bereavement, or additional responsibilities, such as childcare costs. Whatever the circumstance, financial pressure can have a serious impact on your student experience.
UCD may be able to offer support to help you through this difficult time.
Student Health Service
The UCD Student Health Service provides an on-campus primary medical care service for all UCD students.
Their staff of doctors, nurses and a part-time psychiatrist offer professional and confidential care through their range of medical services.
Alumni Buddy Programme
The UCD Alumni Buddy Programme links incoming international graduate students with local UCD Alumni.
The programme provides friendly support to students after their arrival in Dublin.
Students' Union
All current UCD students are members of the Students' Union (UCDSU). The UCDSU International Students Co-ordinator works closely with UCD Global to promote events for international students.
The UCDSU also have officers who provide welfare services and accommodation information. Their accommodation service will be available for new students, so if you intend living off-campus, be sure to check out the Students' Union website.
Chaplains and Prayer Rooms
The university chaplains provide pastoral care, emotional support and spiritual accompaniment, and can act as student advisers. They are available to all students during times of distress, illness and bereavement. Mass is celebrated daily (Monday to Friday) at lunchtime and on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings.
At St. Stephen’s Chaplaincy, you’ll find many groups and events exploring faith and spirituality, as well as a Contemplation Room open to all. The chaplains' offices are located in the Health Sciences Building and in the Old Student Centre. Dedicated prayer rooms for Muslim students are located in Woodview House on the Belfield campus and E123 in the Smurfit Business School, Blackrock.
