Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes

Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes, also known as BIPs, are short-term international study opportunities within any of the EU member states and (opens in a new window)third countries associated to the programme that combine online learning with in-person mobility. Both elements, virtual and in-person, are mandatory in a BIP.

All BIPs are credit-bearing but credit recognition towards a UCD degree is College-dependent.

Funding may be available for the in-person mobility element but is not guaranteed.

  • Participation in the BIP is subject to academic approval by the student’s UCD School and administrative approval by UCD Global, and the completion of an Expression of Interest Form in advance of the start of the BIP.
  • The in-person component is usually 5 days in duration, though a maximum duration of 30 days is permitted.
  • The student must complete Erasmus Grant paperwork prior to the in-person component of the BIP.
  • Funding amounts depend on the destination country and the length of the BIP.
  • As there is limited funding each year, and since funding is not guaranteed, students should firstly read the Erasmus BIP Guide for Students carefully to ensure that they are eligible for a grant.
  • Please email (opens in a new window)outgoing.erasmus@ucd.ie for more information.

Information for Staff on Supervising a UCD Student participating in a BIP

If you are a member of UCD staff, please review the Erasmus BIP guide for Staff.

UCD students going on a BIP must have their BIP study activities approved by an academic member of staff prior to their departure. This is done via the signing of a Learning Agreement. There is a template available, which UCD Global provides via email.

Please refer to (opens in a new window)the Erasmus+ website for further information and instructions for filling out the Learning Agreement.

Please note that participation in a BIP is also subject to administrative approval by UCD Global and an existing Erasmus+ bilateral agreement. Please contact the exchanges team at exchanges@ucd.ie if you would like to inquire about the validity of a student taking part in a BIP.

If you yourself want to participate in a BIP as a teaching staff member or any other capacity, please visit the (opens in a new window)Erasmus+ staff mobility webpage.
