Environmental Policy

UCD Environmental Policy has an international reputation as a centre of excellence for research and teaching on environmental policy issues. UCD Environmental Policy researchers have been central to national and international debates and policy action and have held senior government advisory roles.

The group's research agenda is wide-ranging addressing key thematic areas of direct relevance to policy including work on well-being, environmental economics, and risk and policy design. Additional research topics include: climate change economics and policy; environmental behavioural science; cost benefit analysis and environmental valuation; policy instruments; taxation and emissions trading; transport, energy and smart cities; economic measures of sustainability; quality of life; renewable energy; risk perception and hazard management.

There is a growing demand for graduates with the ability to analyse complex environmental problems, while thinking critically about potential policy actions. The BSc in City Planning & Environmental Policy, the MSc in Environmental Policy, and the PhD in Environmental Policy offer excellent pathways into policy relevant work for graduates. Previous graduates are distinguished policy advisers in the public and private sectors across the globe.
