Privacy Notices
Privacy Notice Guidance
What is a privacy notice?
Before an organisation can ask individuals for personal data, the organisation is legally required to tell them, in advance, what they need their personal data for and what they intend to do with it. A privacy notice is a statement whichexplains this and outlines the purposes for which personal data are collected and used, how the data are used and disclosed, how long it is kept, and the controller's legal basis for processing.
How do I make a privacy notice?
For further information on the requirements for a privacy notice and an example of the text to use, please see the Short Guide below.
The University’s main privacy notices (available here https://www.ucd.ie/privacy/), explain in broad terms how UCD collects and uses (processes) personal data relating to students and staff, what rights you have in relation to that data and who to contact should you have a query or complaint.
