Dynamic cables are crucial for transmitting offshore wind power to land but are prone to frequent and impactful failures. FlowDyn addresses the complexity and vulnerabilities of these cables by developing advanced understanding and tools for their analysis. It also creates comprehensive benchmarks, and establishes guidelines and protocols for testing and monitoring of dynamic cables. FLOWDyn aims to transform design, operation, maintenance, and monitoring practices of dynamic cables, positioning Ireland as a leader in renewable energy technology.

Increasing size Turbines
Floating turbines will soon move beyond 12-14MW to 20+MW, requiring significant upgrade the understanding of their cables.
Reliability
Dynamic cables are one of the most failure prone components. These account for important maintenance and availability issues.
Large Complexities
Dynamic cables are affected by strong nonlinearities coming from their material and geometry.
